SANTA CLARA COUNTY, PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT -- With the holidays approaching and vaccine protection decreasing with time, residents are encouraged to get a COVID-19 booster shot now. Protecting families, schools, workplaces, and ourselves becomes even more important with the Thanksgiving holiday just two weeks away and so many people traveling and gathering with family and friends. While community case rates in the County are currently flat, rates elsewhere in the state are steadily increasing and the initial vaccine protection is proving to decrease over time. "We want to safeguard the public and prevent a COVID-19 surge as the holiday season approaches," said Dr. Sara Cody. Health Officer and Director of Public Health, County of Santa Clara. "We ask everyone who can sign up for a booster shot to protect themselves, their family, and their friends. Get your booster now and make your Thanksgiving gathering safer." The COVID-19 booster vaccines are appropriate for almost everyone 18 and over 6 months following the last Pfizer or Moderna vaccination, or 2 months following the Johnson & Johnson vaccination. To book your booster appointment, visit www.sccFreeVax.org . ***** The County and VTA have launched a free, door-to-door service to transport patients to their vaccine appointments. Accessible VTA paratransit vehicles will pick patients up, take them to their appointment, wait for them and then provide the return trip. Anyone for whom transportation is a barrier to getting vaccinated can utilize this service, 7 days per week. Call COVID-19 Assistance Navigation resource hotline at (408) 809-2124 at least 48 hours prior to your vaccine appointment to request this no-cost service.
