Event: CMA Legislative Advocacy Day  Date: April 10 Location: Sacramento, CA  The Santa Clara County Medical Association (SCCMA) has reserved a bus that will depart the SCCMA office in San Jose on Wednesday morning to go to Sacramento and return in the late afternoon after the last scheduled legislative meeting. NEW PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY FOR CALIFORNIA PHYSICIANS

CMA has won a significant victory in expanding the Federal Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness Program for California physicians who were previously blocked from participating in the program. The new program started on July 1, 2023. It provides loan forgiveness for physicians who work in nonprofit hospitals, foundations, clinics, or other health care entities 30 hours/week for approximately 10 years. DEADLINE: HIPAA Compliant Video Communications Tools for Telehealth by August 10, 2023

When the COVID-19 public health emergency expired on May 11, 2023, the U.S. Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) announced the end of flexibilities that allowed physicians to utilize remote communication technologies for telehealth services that did not fully comply with HIPAA rules. OCR provided a 90-calendar day transition period for covered health care providers to come into compliance with the HIPAA rules for telehealth.
