PHC today announced $85 million in grants to expand GME opportunities across California. For the first time, all specialties were eligible for funding, compared to just five in previous cycles.
As the new year approaches, practices should verify patients’ eligibility, benefits and deductibles to avoid denials and unexpected coverage gaps — especially with deductible resets, payor changes and the loss of federal exchange plan subsidies.
Beginning January 1, 2026, Medi-Cal will freeze new enrollments for undocumented adults aged 19 and older who currently qualify for full-scope Medi-Cal through state-funded adult expansions. Individuals already enrolled can stay covered only if they complete their annual renewal on time.

Effective January 1, 2026, Medi-Cal will discontinue coverage of GLP-1 medications when prescribed for weight loss or weight-related indications for members age 21 and older. This applies to both Medi-Cal fee-for-service and Medi-Cal managed care.
