HEALTH ADVISORY: BENZATHINE PENICILLIN G SHORTAGE (P2)

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a shortage of long-acting penicillin G benzathine injectable suspension products (Bicillin L-A), with an estimated recovery not before spring of 2024. Per the FDA, this drug shortage is due to an increased demand for the drug. Given the high rates of syphilis in California and in Santa Clara County, this is of significant concern.   Bicillin L-A remains the only acceptable treatment for pregnant people infected with or exposed to syphilis and should be prioritized for this population to prevent the harmful effects of congenital syphilis, including premature birth, ...

Robert Lending, MD, describes himself as a “computer dinosaur.” The Tucson, Ariz., internist and clinical lipidologist gets cash from bank tellers rather than ATMs. He doesn’t make online purchases or use social media. 84-year-old doctor who refuses to use computer loses medical license

Aside from a fax machine and landline telephone, there isn’t much technology in the office of physician Anna Konopka, 84... Konopka said she felt forced to surrender her medical license in September after New Hampshire Board of Medicine officials challenged her record-keeping, prescribing practices and medical decision-making, according to court documents.
